Our Season Long Draw For 2010
Enter three or more races during the season and be eligible to win a prize in our Season Long Draw. There are over $10,000 in prizes so far with more to come.
Back again for a seventh year is our Season Long Draw. The prize line-up is impressive with prizes like a Specialized Transition Expert Bike, a CompuTrainer, a Zoot Synergy Wetsuit, Zoot Ultra TT shoes, (3) Zoot Tri bags, Timex Heart Rate monitors, coaching packages and more to come.
It's our way of thanking you for coming out to our races all year. With the draw being held at the end of October 2010 it means the more you race the better your chance to win. As you can see we are off to a fantastic start with the prize list so far. We will track your races and once you have entered THREE OR MORE RACES you are automatically entered. You also get additional chances to win by completing our post race survey.
We intend to keep adding prizes all year and will keep updating the prize list as the season progresses. The Season Long Draw page has all of the details.

The Only Series With Personalized Race Awards
MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series makes sure we offer something special for race day award winners. As an age group winner, not only do you receive a medal but a FREE personalized Finishers Picture Award with the date, race location and your time. No other race or series provides this sort of award. Here is an award sample. For a larger version just click on the picture.
After each race, you will receive an email from My Sports Shooter – Mike Cheliak. The email will contain links to any photos that were identified as you (by bib) and will also contain a custom coupon code. Your code is used at checkout and will deduct either $5 or $10 from your purchase.
If you were a top three finisher recognized at the awards; your coupon code is valued at $10. For all other participants in the adult venues, your coupon code is valued at $5. You can use your coupon code towards the purchase of any product offered by My Sports Shooter. The two MultiSport Digital Products are $5 for the MultiSport Small Digital File or $10 for the MultiSport Digital Award which means a FREE PHOTO!
For top three finishers, you MUST put your stats in the comments section at checkout in order to get the custom virtual clock layout. If not, your photo will be sent to you as is.
Please note that ALL COUPONS ARE VALID FOR ONE WEEK FROM THE DATE OF ISSUE. There will be no exceptions.
My Sports Shooter - You’ve Been Shot Award

Congratulations to our You've Been Shot Award winners from Welland. Coincidentally, all are local area athletes. Kim Garrod in Saturday's GT 12.9, and the Guembel family in Sunday's Half Iron Triathlon. The winner(s) will get a copy of the full resolution 8x10 digital file. Contact Mike Cheliak to claim your picture. Remember to smile and ham it up for the camera, and maybe you too can be a You've Been Shot Award winner.
Thank You To The Retailers and Sponsors At Welland

Welland Race Report & Results
Thanks to all athletes, volunteers and sponsors for coming out and making our Welland Race Weekend a magnificent one. We are continually receiving glowing emails about the race and the crew of local volunteers. So it is only appropriate that we begin this report by thanking Ron Lemon and David Boone for their incredible work organizing all of the volunteers, this work was definitely appreciated by all of the athletes.
Here is just one sample email we received:
“WOW, what a great event! The course, the organization and volunteers were fantastic. It sure showcased what a jewel we have hidden in Welland with the swim venue, a TT cycling course and the run along the path is dead gorgeous. I think if the word gets out it could become one of Ontario's best half iron distance races. I can't say enough good things about it. Thanks so much for all your hard work behind the scenes (directed to Linda and Ron Lemon) and on-site all day Saturday and Sunday - it was top shelf event and any problems were seamless to the athletes - I can confirm I swam, biked, ran, ate and drank my way to Dunnville and back without a care in the world. Feeling okay today but terrorized by the thought of climbing stairs.”

On Saturday, Toronto’s Tommy Ferris dominated the Duathlon with top splits all across the board, while Stoney Creek’s Lucy Elcome took her second win of the series this year (winner of the Woodstock Duathlon) thanks to solid runs and a top women’s bike split. The Time Trial Triathlon saw Stephen Koziarski take the overall win with a race best 24:44 7.7 km run split, and Allison Costello took the women’s race by putting together the top women bike (48:42) and run (29:24) times. Young Robbie Chapman absolutely crushed the GT 12.9 course, posting top times in all segments to finish in an impressive time of 35:49. Nicole Sulewski won the women’s race (44:43) by just 13 seconds over Leanne Kodma. Sulewski also won the GT 12.9 in Woodstock.
On Sunday, the marquee event of the weekend – the inaugural Welland
Half Iron Triathlon, took place. St.
Catherine's Wolfgang Guembel was the only athlete to go under four hours, as he
swam 24:03, biked 2:09:16, and ran 1:20:35 to take the overall win in 3:56:49. In
the women’s race, St. Catherine’s Nicole Van Beurden controlled the race until
the run, and that is where Guelph's Deborah Powell took over with an impressive
race best half marathon (1:35:49) in the high heat and humidity of the day to
take the win in 4:47:18. The winners of the Half Iron Duathlon were Toronto's
Gleb Jegaline (4:55:35) and London's Monica Olanski (5:37:15), while London's Steve
Whitmore (3:01:12) and Aurora's Shannon Kemp (3:03:11) won the Half Iron Swim/Bike.
To many, the most impressive and classy move of the day came from our own Ask the
Coach panelist Nigel Gray. Nigel sacrificed his race (was in the top 5 at the
time) to assist his fellow Ask the Coach counterpart, Richard Pady, who was
taken down in a collision with a vehicle. Gray offered immediate attention and
stayed with Richard until the EMS arrived, even though an OAT official was on
the scene. Richard had a brief stay in the hospital and was left with a broken
arm, abrasions, a few stitches to his lip, and a possible injured knee. Both he and his wife are
very grateful and thankful that Nigel stopped and stayed with him, and Richard
would like to thank all of you for your well wishes.
“Not only did Nigel take the time to stop, but he finished the bike ride, and then even did the run at a solid pace while he supported the other athletes racing out on the course. No one gave me a louder cheer than Nigel (well actually, my mom generally wins that category),” said Guembel, our race winner. “I hope I can learn to be the same kind of leader he is in, and around, our multisport world. A 3:56 Half Ironman is pretty cool, but I think Nigel had the real 'performance' of the day.”
We could not agree more, so Nigel is also our third You've Been Shot Award Winner. It is the least we could do. Congratulations Nigel!

Instead of finisher medals, we decided to spend more and provided all Half Iron finishers with Welland Half Iron Headsweats Finisher Hats. We hope you liked it! We figured you would appreciate something you could use daily to bask in your accomplishment, instead of a medal that would likely collect dust in a shoebox somewhere in the basement.
We also wanted to let you know about the "plastic" cups you encountered out on the run course. These cups were NOT plastic. We realize that some of you like to bend the cups to drink but in the interest of the environment, we have made the decision to use these compostable corn based cups. It is small price to pay for the good of our planet. We thank Infinit Nutrition for providing these cups.
Finally, the Triple Race Challenge kicked off with the Welland Half Iron. Everyone who finished is now eligible to compete in the Challenge. You just need to race at Cobourg and Wasaga Olympic Distance races. If you did not declare that intend to compete in the Challenge please let us know, if you are still on the fence please consider being a part of it. We will have more details and a Leader Board of the declared athletes in the July Newsletter.
Make sure to visit MultiSport Canada Radio for post-race interviews with many of our race winners. And check out Larry Bradley’s most recent Blog Post about his race at Welland.
Congratulations go out to all our first timers, welcome to the Triathlon/Duathlon family.

Thanks for joining us at Welland, see you again at our next race weekend in Gravenhurst.

A Reminder to all Athletes
Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.
Thanks To All Of Our Sponsors
We extend our thanks to each and every sponsor and the local bike, running and triathlon shops in the communities where you race. Race entry fees never cover the complete cost of a particular race or series of races and without the sponsors there is no race or race series that would survive without their support. We hope that you all take a moment to check out our Series Sponsors below or visit the sponsors page and see what they do and look at the products they sell. Please thank them for supporting the sports of Triathlon and Duathlon by trying and using their products. If you do visit them please take a moment to thank them for supporting Triathlon, Duathlon and Kids races in Ontario.
