Complete Our Post-Race Survey and Get Additional Ballots to the Season Long Draw
We really do use the feedback you provide to improve our races and hope you will take a few minutes to complete the Binbrook Customer Satisfaction Survey. Just complete the survey, and if you compete in three or more races you will get an additional ballot for the Season Long Draw. You just need to tell us what you think of the race. Here is the Welland Post-Race Survey.
Our Season Long Draw For 2011
Enter three or more races during the season and be eligible to win a prize in our Season Long Draw. There are over $5,000 in prizes so far with more to come.
Back again for an eighth year is our Season Long Draw. The prize line-up is impressive with prizes from CompuTrainer, TYR, Timex, Trico, coaching packages and more to come.
It's our way of thanking you for coming out to our races all year. With the draw being held at the end of October 2011 it means the more you race the better your chance to win. As you can see we are off to a fantastic start with the prize list so far. We will track your races and once you have entered THREE OR MORE RACES you are automatically entered. You also get additional chances to win by completing our post race survey.
We intend to keep adding prizes all year and will keep updating the prize list as the season progresses. The Season Long Draw page has all of the details.

We receive many questions about training, what to do on race day, rules etc. The MultiSport Canada Training Resources webpage has a great deal of information about those topics and more. The latest addition to the Training Resources section is Training With Chocolate Milk. While you are there why not check out all of the other pages.
Welland Race Report & Results
By Roger Hospedales of Triathlon Magazine Canada
On behalf of MultiSport Canada and the Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series, I must first acknowledge and thank all of the volunteers, sponsors, on-site retailers, athletes, officials, medical crew, police, and spectators for making this past Welland race weekend the biggest and best in the long history of triathlon racing in Welland. There were over 900 participants in the various races over the weekend! Enjoy some of the images captured by Mike Cheliak and his crew from MySportShooter.com
What's better at the end of a race? A hug or a medal?
No race announcing for Jody Miller (left) today she raced the Half Iron Tri and won her age group. Anne Nicolussi had the fastest swim but a mechanical on the bike ended her day in the Swim/Bike race. She will be rockin’ Challenge Roth on July 10.
Grant Darby making his way to T1. With no complaints by the way. Inspirational & tough.
John Lettieri - The man responsible for those awesome Hero Burgers.
Imre Varga traveled from Columbus, Ohio to race with us. He raises funds and awareness for Stop the Clot.org
Saturday’s Races
The weekend’s racing kicked off on Saturday with the Triathlon, Duathlon, and GT 12.9 events.
North York’s Paul Bregin literally ran away with the overall win. Bregin led everyone out of the water (11:04), lost the lead to Toronto’s Jakub Macel (who rode an incredible 43:39 – 41.2 km/hr average), then regained the lead during the final 7.5 km run with a 26:26 clocking. For the women, Hamilton’s Lesley Rasmussen McKee grabbed control of the race with a 50:42 (35.5 km/hr average) bike ride. The mother of four then ran 31:49 to stay ahead of Toronto’s Laura Pimm.
Kintore’s Scott Finch dominated the Duathlon. He led from start to finish to take the overall win by close to 4.5 minutes. Meanwhile, on the strength of the her first run (18:23), Port Colborne’s Kelly-Ann Smith remained in front Toronto’s Katya Masun for the women’s Duathlon win. Ancaster’s David Hopton posted top splits in all three segments of the GT 12.9 race to win in a sizzling time of 34:31, and St. Catherines’ Joanna Cielen used the top women’s ride to claim the women’s win in 44:32.
Sunday’s Half Iron Day
In our biggest Half Iron race ever, the weather was just about right (except maybe for the winds on the bike), our professional field added to the excitement of the day with their presence, and they sure lived up to the advanced billing during the race.
Toronto's Nigel Gray showed that he is still a force to be reckoned with by unseating St. Catherines’ Wolfgang Guembel of the inaugural title he won last year.

Guembel (pictured above) exited the 2 km swim from the Welland Recreational Waterway first (25:12) with a healthy 3 minute lead over Gray but that would not be enough thanks to Gray’s 2:06:46 fastest ride of the day. When Gray headed out on the run, he then held a 3-minute lead on Guembel that he would not surrender. His 1:21:12 half marathon gave him the overall win (3:59:55). Guembel had to settle for second (4:03:36).
(2011 Welland Half Iron Triathlon Men's Champion Nigel Gray with the Recharge With Milk TV Crew)
After taking a break from triathlon to enjoy the world of cycling racing, Paolina Allan made an impressive return on Sunday and used her pedaling skills to earn her victory. After Toronto’s Ayesha Rollinson led the swim (27:51), Allan posted the top women’s ride of 2:22:03, which put her ahead of her closest contender, Toronto’s Suzanne Zelazo, heading onto the run. Zelazo did her best to close the gap but Allan crossed the line in 4:29:04 to win the women’s title. Witness Allan's excitement in the picture below.
(Paolina Allan - our 2011 Welland Half Iron Triathlon Women's Champion)
Zelazo, who will make her Ironman debut in Lake Placid in July, placed second (4:31:17), and in her professional race debut Cindy Lewis (she often serves as part of our post-race medical crew) established a personal best time (4:37:37) to get third. Lewis will also be heading off with the MSC Crew to race Challenge Roth on July 10.
In the grueling Half Iron Duathlon (10.5 km run, 90 km bike, 21.1 km run), Komoka’s Paul Wraith (4:58:45) and St. Catherines’ Darlene Dawson (5:35:46) utilized excellent runs to obtain their victories. And in the Half Iron Swim/Bike, training partners from Guelph took the overall wins. Deborah Powell, last year’s Half Iron Triathlon Champion, won the women’s race (3:04:02), and Paul Nielsen (2:52:51) won it for the men. Both will also be heading to Challenge Roth and are obviously in fine form.
Make sure to visit MultiSport Canada Radio for lots of great post-race interviews with our race winners, runner's up, and with Imre Varga.

A Reminder to all Athletes
Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.
