Du the Double, Provincial Championships & 2017 ITU Standard Duathlon Qualifier at Gravenhurst

Triathlon Ontario, the recognized Provincial Governing Body of Multisport in Ontario, once again issued the “Du-the-Double” Duathlon Challenge.
The “Du-the-Double” Duathlon Challenge consists of Age Groupers competing in both the Sprint and Standard Distance Duathlon Provincial Championships on July 16/17, 2016 at  the Recharge With Milk MultiSport Canada Gravenhurst Weekend.  The Standard Duathlon event will also serve as a National Qualifier with two automatic spots per age division and gender.

1698_Gravenhurst_v2The rules are simple, athletes must be Triathlon Ontario members and must compete as Age Groupers in their respective age groups.
Points will be awarded based on finishing position for both events within the top 10 of each age group.
Athletes will be awarded 100 points for first place, 90 points for second, 80 points for third and so on until 10 points for 10th place.
The top female and male after both events’ points have been added will win $500 each.

Provincials and Qualification Spots

Saturday’s International Distance Duathlon and Sunday’s Sprint Duathlon will serve as Triathlon Ontario Provincial Championships.  Participants must be Triathlon Ontario members prior to the start of the race to be eligible for the Championships.  The overall winners in each distance in each gender will be recognized as Provincial Champions and celebrated at the Annual Awards Banquet.

The Standard Duathlon event will also have two automatic national qualification spots for each gender in each age division for the honour of representing Canada on home soil at the 2017 ITU Age Group Duathlon World Championships in Penticton, British Columbia.

Since the Sprint Duathlon event at World Championships are draft legal, all qualification events must also be draft legal.  Therefore, there will be no National Qualifiers in Ontario in 2016 for the Sprint Duathlon Distance for the 2017 ITU Age Group Duathlon World Championships.

How to qualify for the 2017 ITU Multisport World Championships

Representing Canada among the top age-group athletes in the world is an unforgettable and unique experience. Here is how you can!

1) Train hard.

2) Qualify through a Triathlon Canada Multisport Series Qualifying Race

3) Register for your race in your age category (your age on December 31st of 2017)

Stage 1: Automatic Qualification – Registration is available October 1st

Stage 2: Roll-down Qualification – Registration is available October 15th – October 31, 1200PST

Stage 3: Open Registration: Open Registration is available on November 15th

4) Prepare to represent Canada at 2017 ITU Multisport World Championships in Penticton, British Columbia in August 2017!

Triathlon Canada may nominate up to 25 males and 25 females in each age category that starts at 16-19 years and progresses in five year blocks. Any events above the standard distance have a minimum age requirement of 18 years. For full details on qualification Rules see Triathlon Canada.
