Our Season Long Draw For 2010
Enter three or more races during the season and be eligible to win a prize in our Season Long Draw. There are over $10,000 in prizes so far with more to come.
Back again for a seventh year is our Season Long Draw. The prize line-up is impressive with prizes like a Specialized Transition Expert Bike, a CompuTrainer, a Zoot Synergy Wetsuit, Zoot Ultra TT shoes, (3) Zoot Tri bags, Timex Heart Rate monitors, coaching packages and more to come.
It's our way of thanking you for coming out to our races all year. With the draw being held at the end of October 2010 it means the more you race the better your chance to win. As you can see we are off to a fantastic start with the prize list so far. We will track your races and once you have entered THREE OR MORE RACES you are automatically entered. You also get additional chances to win by completing our post race survey.
We intend to keep adding prizes all year and will keep updating the prize list as the season progresses. The Season Long Draw page has all of the details.

Toronto Island Race Report & Results
It was another sold out weekend of racing at Toronto Island, and while the humidity was high on both days, we escaped the forecasted rain and thunderstorms, and the overcast skies made for excellent summer race conditions.

On Saturday, it was all about the GT 12.9. 55% of the participants were women, and there were over 250 first time triathletes (over 60% of the field). How great is that? And it was a first-timer that took the overall race win.
Toronto’s Philip Spisak swam the 400 m and made the run into transition in 9:18, biked 10 km in 16:58, and ran the final 2.5 km in 10:22 to finish with a time of 38:28. All set to enter grade 8 in September, Toronto’s Kirsten Vergara, a provincially ranked runner (holds a Tyke 1500 m record of 5:09) used her 9:55 run split to take the women’s win and finished third overall with a time of 39:24! It was certainly a treat to see this up and coming athlete compete on Saturday.
The future sure looks bright for Canada and for the growth of this great sport with such an enthusiastic group of first timers.

Also on Saturday, 7 Systems Do More Contest finalist Andrina Kelly managed to meet her goal of improving her time by at least 7%. “It has been just over a year and a half since I changed my life. I’ve gone from being a sedentary woman with a body fat of 54% to an athletic physique of 18% body fat,” said Andrina before the race. “When I did the Toronto Give-it-a-Tri last year I was still working towards my goal. Now I’m there and with the help of 7SYSTEMS am working towards a new goal!” Check out the contest website for more information and make sure to listen to MSC Radio to hear an interview with Andrina Kelly.
The weather forecast for Sunday was ominous but not one drop of rain fell in which to dampen the day.
The Sprint Duathlon witnessed an incredible head to head battle between Toronto’s Tommy Ferris (last years winner) and Whitby’s Adam Fitzsimmons. Fitzsimmons opened up a bit of lead heading onto the bike but soon thereafter Ferris closed the gap and the pair shadowed each other the rest of the way leading to a sprint in the finish chute where Fitzsimmons denied Ferris of his attempt to repeat as champion, taking the overall win by mere one second margin (1:17:56). Check out the great sequence of photos below - MySportsShooter on the spot as usual.

The women’s race had some drama too. Anna Szabo appeared to take the overall win but a 2-minute penalty for passing in a non-passing zone, knocked her down to second place (1:31:12). This left Oakville’s Monica Lau (who posted the top women’s splits for both runs) with the victory with a time of 1:30:35. Lau also won the Bracebridge Duathlon last week.
With 500 participants, the Sprint Triathlon saw the return of Toronto’s Patryk Biegalski to the top of the podium. After suffering a serious early season bike crash, Biegalski showed that the hard work he has done to recover from that accident has paid off, utilizing a race best bike ride of 44:06 (40.8 km/hr) to take a 9 second victory (1:29:33) over Toronto’s Jonathan Moncrieff (1:29:42). This was the second year in a row the Moncrieff finished second. Like many of her other wins this season in our series, Toronto’s Natalie Scadden led out of the water (12:37), rode solidly (51:34), and ran among the top times (third best 34:08) to win in 1:40:19, comfortable ahead of Corbeil’s Isabelle Sauve (1:42:10).

We also had a marriage proposal on Sunday. Series regulars Arthur Kwok and Laura Banks did their first race together at Toronto Island in 2008, and following Laura's race Arthur popped the question and Laura accepted.
Congratulations, we wish you all the best!
By the way Arthur, you should have borrowed Edsel Ing's bike shirt for the occasion.

In other special news, we'd also like to acknowledge the folks at Preparing the Trail.
They have joined us at several races this season and as always they plant a tree to mark the occasion. Please visit their website for more information, and to adopt a tree (you can adopt the one planted on Sunday) to help their efforts to support the environment.
Hey Laura and Arthur! You also have a tree to commemorate your wonderful day. Now you must come back every year to do this race and check out the growth of your tree. And maybe even pay yearly visits with your kids (no pressure).
We thank all volunteers, athletes, sponsors, medical
support, and spectators for creating such a fun, friendly, supportive, and
competitive weekend of racing that the MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series is
known for.
Thanks for joining us at Toronto Island, we hope to see you again at Cobourg or another one of our future races.
Make sure to visit MultiSport Canada Radio for post-race interviews with many of our race winners.

A Reminder to all Athletes
Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.
Thanks To All Of Our Sponsors
We extend our thanks to each and every sponsor and the local bike, running and triathlon shops in the communities where you race. Race entry fees never cover the complete cost of a particular race or series of races and without the sponsors there is no race or race series that would survive without their support. We hope that you all take a moment to check out our Series Sponsors below or visit the sponsors page and see what they do and look at the products they sell. Please thank them for supporting the sports of Triathlon and Duathlon by trying and using their products. If you do visit them please take a moment to thank them for supporting Triathlon, Duathlon and Kids races in Ontario.
