Gravenhurst 2010 Post-race News

Complete Our Post-Race Survey and You Could Win A Free Race

This year we will be awarding a free race entry to one of the athletes that completes our online post-race survey. Just complete the survey, tell us what you think of the race and your name will be entered into a draw for a free race. The Gravenhurst Post-Race Survey

Our Season Long Draw For 2010

Enter three or more races during the season and be eligible to win a prize in our Season Long Draw. There are over $10,000 in prizes so far with more to come.

Back again for a seventh year is our Season Long Draw. The prize line-up is impressive with prizes like a Specialized Transition Expert Bike, a CompuTrainer, a Zoot Synergy Wetsuit, Zoot Ultra TT shoes, (3) Zoot Tri bags, Timex Heart Rate monitors, coaching packages and more to come.

It's our way of thanking you for coming out to our races all year. With the draw being held at the end of October 2010 it means the more you race the better your chance to win. As you can see we are off to a fantastic start with the prize list so far. We will track your races and once you have entered THREE OR MORE RACES you are automatically entered. You also get additional chances to win by completing our post race survey.

We intend to keep adding prizes all year and will keep updating the prize list as the season progresses. The Season Long Draw page has all of the details.

Our Annual Survey - One week left

The Annual Customer Survey is important to us for two reasons. First, whenever possible, we use your answers and input to make changes to the series. Second, your answers help us to work with our sponsors who in turn work with us to add value to the race series. In some cases this means great race day draw prizes or support of the series. Either way we believe it enhances your race experience. Once you have completed the survey your name will be placed in a draw where you could win one of five (5) FREE entries to a race of your choice in August or September in 2010 or 2011. Good luck!
We DO NOT give any individual personal identifiable information to ANYONE!

Thank You To The Retailers and Sponsors At Gravenhurst

We would not be able to provide the quality of races and draw prizes without the sponsors and retailers who support our series. Please check out all of the Series Sponsors at the end of this newsletter. Special thanks to the retailers and sponsors who were at the race or contributed draw prizes this weekend. They were:

Gravenhurst Race Report & Results

The weather was hot, and so was the racing at the 7th Gravenhurst Triathlon Weekend.

Once again, the Olympic and Sprint Triathlons were sold out, and the International Duathlon served as the Ontario Provincial Championships with qualifying spots for the 2011 World Duathlon Championships in Gijón, Spain. We thank all athletes, volunteers, sponsors, and spectators for contributing to a fun, friendly, and competitive weekend of racing that the MultiSport Canada Triathlon Series is known for.

In Saturday’s Provincial Duathlon Championship, Oakville’s Kevin Smith roared to the lead with a 10 km run split of 35:25, then Toronto’s Tommy Ferris took over control of the race with a 1:02:19 bike. All the while, L’Orignal’s Patrick Lalonde remained close and made his move on the run, posting a 19:36 5km final run (the only athlete to run sub 20 minutes for that final segment) to take the race win in 2:02:39. In the women’s race, Guelph’s Christina Clark took a 45 second lead onto the bike, lost the lead to Toronto’s Carolyn Silvey, but assumed the lead and race win (2:23:56) thanks to a final 22:46 run. All duathletes that qualified (top 3 per 5 year age group) and are interested in accepting their spots to the 2011 World Championships have one week to do so. Visit the following link to find out how to register.

The Olympic Triathlon featured the surprise appearance of Barbi Brochu of Longford Mills, Ontario. Barbi was 2nd at Ultraman Canada (10 km swim, 418.3 km bike, 84.3 km run) last year where she set a new swim course record of 2:42:41, and finished in a time of 27 hrs and 16 minutes. On Saturday, she tapped into some of those ultra endurance abilities to dominate the women’s race with top splits in all three segments crossing the line in 2:16:56 – just 54 seconds off of the overall race win! In the men’s race, Barrie’s Philip Montgomery was first out of the water, lost the lead to local Steve Vandermolen (partly responsible for bringing this race to Gravenhurst) during the bike but regained the lead during the run to take the win in 2:16:02, just 34 seconds ahead of Vandermolen.

On Sunday, the racing kicked off with Frankford’s Adam Doxator (39:25) and Newmarket’s Marnee Da Ponte (46:44) taking wins in the GT 12.9. In the Sprint Triathlon, North York’s Laura Pimm led from wire to wire to take the win, and Toronto’s Devon Labuik did the same in the men’s race to take his second series race victory - he also won the Woodstock Sprint Triathlon on June 6th. The Sprint Duathlon saw both McMaster University’s Duke Lloyd and Blue Mountain’s Barb Holland use blazing run splits to earn their race wins.

Series regular, Gordon Pauls, raced on both days and he had good reason to do so. He is preparing for a Triple Ironman in August and it is all for raising money for Haiti. Find out more here and contribute to the cause if you can.

Make sure to visit MultiSport Canada Radio for post-race interviews with many of our race winners.

Congratulations go out to all our first timers, welcome to the Triathlon/Duathlon family.

Thanks for joining us at Gravenhurst, we hope to see you again at Bala Falls.

A Reminder to all Athletes

Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.

Thanks To All Of Our Sponsors

We extend our thanks to each and every sponsor and the local bike, running and triathlon shops in the communities where you race. Race entry fees never cover the complete cost of a particular race or series of races and without the sponsors there is no race or race series that would survive without their support. We hope that you all take a moment to check out our Series Sponsors below or visit the sponsors page and see what they do and look at the products they sell. Please thank them for supporting the sports of Triathlon and Duathlon by trying and using their products. If you do visit them please take a moment to thank them for supporting Triathlon, Duathlon and Kids races in Ontario.
