Complete Our Post-Race Survey and Get Additional Ballots to the Season Long Draw

We really do use the feedback you provide to improve our races and hope you will take a few minutes to complete the Binbrook Customer Satisfaction Survey. Just complete the survey, and if you compete in three or more races you will get an additional ballot for the Season Long Draw. You just need to tell us what you think of the race. Here is the Bracebridge Post-Race Survey.

Our Season Long Draw For 2011

Enter three or more races during the season and be eligible to win a prize in our Season Long Draw. There are over $5,000 in prizes so far with more to come.

Back again for an eighth year is our Season Long Draw. The prize line-up is impressive with prizes from CompuTrainer, TYR, Timex, Trico, coaching packages and more to come.

It's our way of thanking you for coming out to our races all year. With the draw being held at the end of October 2011 it means the more you race the better your chance to win. As you can see we are off to a fantastic start with the prize list so far. We will track your races and once you have entered THREE OR MORE RACES you are automatically entered. You also get additional chances to win by completing our post race survey.

We intend to keep adding prizes all year and will keep updating the prize list as the season progresses. The Season Long Draw page has all of the details.

Bracebridge Race Report & Results

By Roger Hospedales of Triathlon Magazine Canada

First of all, thanks go out to all of the volunteers, sponsors, on-site retailers, athletes, and spectators for making this past Bracebridge race weekend another excellent event.

(Our unbeatable combo of post-race Chocolate Milk & HERO Burgers)

The heat continues to be a factor but how can we complain? I don't want to remind you but in a few months when the white stuff starts falling to the ground, most of us will be begging for the summer weather once again. So let's fully enjoy the rest of this summer while it lasts.

(We start them early at the Recharge With Milk Triathlon Series)

Annie Williams Park

We have been asked by the community to let you know about an effort to improve the park even more. Athletes will be especially interested in the plans for the shoreline.

Annie Williams Memorial Park in Bracebridge Ontario is unique in that it survives due to the generosity of the Bracebridge Rotary Club, the Bracebridge-Muskoka Lakes Rotary Club and the Bracebridge Lions Club.  This lovely gem is in need of some polishing, and a park makeover is in the works.  In addition to a new playground, tree planting and a fresh coat of paint on the picnic shelter, on September 10, 2011,  the shoreline of this park will be completely revitalized by community volunteers.  The gabian stone will be pulled out, and replaced with a more gradual grade and better access to the water.  Large rocks, natural plants and some park benches will all make your triathalon experience in Bracebridge even better.  But we need your help.  Please consider making a contribution to this worthy project by sending your tax-receiptable donation today to Annie Williams Memorial Park, PO Box 1466, Bracebridge, Ontario P1L 1V5.  Cheques should be made out to Town of Bracebridge with memo Annie Williams Memorial Park.  Thank you for your support!

Saturday’s Sprint Distance Races

The Sprint Duathlon witnessed dominant performances by a pair of Oakville athletes. Kevin Smith, a perennial Elite World Championships competitor, crushed the field with a 58:55 clocking (the only athlete to go under one hour). He ran 16:49 for the 5km, biked the 20 km in 32:29, and ran the final 2.5 km in 8:51. Meanwhile, Monica Lau used her typical stellar run (she ran 20:48 for the 5km, and 10:07 for the 2.5 km) to earn the women’s win in 1:11:40.

In the Time Trial start triathlon, Toronto’s Ruston Martin learned his lesson from Bala Falls (where he let up on his effort and passed virtually due to the wave start) and ensured that he would not get overtaken for the lead by running a full out 18:45 final 5 km to secure the win in 1:06:00. Aurora’s Paolina Allan (our Gravenhurst Olympic and Welland Half Iron Champion), used her characteristic strong bike to bring home another victory (1:11:17).

(Girl Power - our Relay winners from Saturday)

Sunday’s Provincial Championships, International Duathlon and Give It A Tri Races

The Olympic Distance Triathlon served as the Ontario Provincial Championships and the athletes sure stepped up to plate to provide the quality racing that the Championships deserved

(Richard Pady leading the race out of T1)

Orangeville’s Richard Pady led out of the water (19:55) closely trailed by St. Catherines’ Wolfgang Guembel (20:13), who kept Pady within 26 seconds throughout the 40 km bike. Pady flew out of T2 to extend his lead but Guembel ran a 36:56 10 km split to overtake the Healthy Results head coach for the win (1:59:25), while Pady had to settle for second (2:01:12).

(Wolfgang Guembel takes the win)

The exciting racing continued with the women as the top five women were within 90 seconds of each other throughout the bike ride (after Scarborough’s Miranda Bharadwaj opening swim of 22:08).

(Miranda Bharadwaj leading the way out of T2, with Elizabeth Primrose in close pursuit)

In the end, fifty-year old Elizabeth Primrose (a National Champion in Triathlon and Cross-country running) showed that she still is a force to be reckoned with by taking the women’s win (2:14:41) with a strong bike and run combination. Bharadwaj ran tough to claim second in 2:15:36.

(Elizabeth Primrose wins!)

* For those that obtained World Championship qualifying slots in the Olympic Triathlon, please visit Triathlon Canada World Championship Registration Information site. Reminder: There were Two Age-Group Spots per Five-Year Category for the 2012 World Championships. You MUST be a FULL YEAR member of the Ontario Association of Triathletes in order to qualify for an Age-Group Spot!

(The classy Paolina Allan did the Double. She raced to a win on Saturday, a fourth on Sunday)

Toronto’s David Frake dominated the International Duathlon from start to finish.  Frake ran the first 10 km in 36:08, followed that up with a 59:08 40 km bike (the only sub one hour ride all day), and ran the final 5 km in 19:01 to cross the finish line in 1:55:59 to take the overall win by close to 22 minutes. Toronto’s Sasha Gollish’s opening 10 km run of 40:24 gave her a 10-minute lead once she headed off on the 40 km ride. Lia Kutzscher picked up a few minutes during the bike but Gollish surged away again with the top 5 km run of 21:51 and won the women’s race in 2:21:13.

In the Give It A Tri, local girls Melinda Hubert and Emily Hubert battled it out with each other in the women’s race but Melinda used the top swim and bike to finish in 47:08 and edge out Emily for the win by 23 seconds. For the men, James Scott put up solid splits all across the board to grab the overall victory in 43:36.

(We should all look this happy while we are racing)

Stoney Creek’s Tony Morelli (1:31:43) and Toronto’s Leslie Grant (1:55:43) took wins in the Olympic Swim/Bike.

Make sure to visit MultiSport Canada Radio for post-race interviews with with Kevin Smith, Ruston Martin, Girl Power, and more.

A Reminder to all Athletes

Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.
