Bala Falls Race Report & Results
Thanks to all athletes, volunteers and sponsors for coming out and making the 16th Bala Falls Triathlon such a great day.

The Bala Falls Triathlon was first
held on Saturday August 12, 1995 when a group of triathletes decided to
honour the memory of Lisa Hamann who lost a battle with cancer at the age of 31. Lisa was an avid athlete who competed in triathlon for many years
and promoted a healthy, active lifestyle at her workplace. Below of some of the athletes that participated and organized that first race.

In honour of Lisa's memory, MultiSport Canada established a Junior Triathlon Sport Development Award. On Sunday this award was presented to Emma Barnes of the Muskoka Aquatic Club.
At the age of 7 (she is 13 now), Emma began her competitive swimming with the Muskoka Aquatic Club, she has developed into a National level, age group swimmer. Emma recently finished in the top-5 at the Junior Provincial Championships in multiple races and this season, broke 3 Muskoka Aquatic Club records within her age group, and is currently ranked in the top-10 in Canada for the 200m freestyle within her age group. Emma also takes part in track and field, cross-country running and canoeing. The award and the $1125 that comes with it, will be used to help offset Emma's training expenses. Congratulations Emma and the Muskoka Aquatic Club! We wish you all the best in your future athletic endeavors. Read more about the award here.
The overall race winner was Martin Rydlo, a former professional triathlete and one of the founders of 7 Systems. Rydlo led the 750 m swim with a 9:56 clocking, but was passed during the 30 km bike by Gravenhurst's Steve Vandermolen, who rode the best bike split of the day (47:25), and average speed of 38 km/hr. Vandermolen took a 38 second lead onto the 7.5 km run, but it was not enough as Rydlo regained the race lead and won the race in 1:31:23, 70 seconds ahead of Ottawa's Gregory Moore who chased hard but came up short despite his 28:48 top run split. Vandermolen settled for third (1:33:05).
For the women, Barbi Brochu exhibited the same dominance that won her the Gravenhurst Olympic Distance Triathlon just one weekend prior to Bala. The ultra distance standout from Longford Mills, Ontario once again posted top splits in all segments to take the win (1:34:51). In second was Toronto's Allison Chisholm (1:41:43), and in third was Marion Donaldson (1:43:28).

Thanks for joining us at Bala Falls, we hope to see you at our next race weekend in Bracebridge.

A Reminder to all Athletes
Maintaining great relationships with the communities hosting our races is essential to ensuring that these races are successful and continue to exist. Therefore, athletes, please remember to be courteous out on the race course. Not only to volunteers and fellow racers, but also to the residents of the community you are racing in. And just like when you are out training, you need to share the road. It is a race but we do not own the road. Adopting the spirit of sharing and co-operation will make it a better experience for all.
Thanks To All Of Our Sponsors
We extend our thanks to each and every sponsor and the local bike, running and triathlon shops in the communities where you race. Race entry fees never cover the complete cost of a particular race or series of races and without the sponsors there is no race or race series that would survive without their support. We hope that you all take a moment to check out our Series Sponsors below or visit the sponsors page and see what they do and look at the products they sell. Please thank them for supporting the sports of Triathlon and Duathlon by trying and using their products. If you do visit them please take a moment to thank them for supporting Triathlon, Duathlon and Kids races in Ontario.
